HASTINGS, Neb. – Heading to the fourth inning, the Dakota Wesleyan University softball team looked to be in the driver's seat, but the Concordia University Bulldogs had other ideas.
The Bulldogs tallied seven total runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to defeat DWU 7-5 on Saturday in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament in Hastings, Neb. The Tigers season comes to a close at 20-34 overall and 9-11 in the GPAC.
Karly Severance (Las Vegas, Nev.) gave the Tigers a two-run lead early in the top of the second off a deep home run over center field. The Tiger offense got to work in the fourth inning after recording two runs, but three runs in the fourth, another in the fifth and three more in the sixth by Concordia put the Tigers at bay.
Sierra Haage (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was handed the loss after tossing six innings, allowing five earned runs off nine hits, while striking out three and walking seven.
The Tigers graduate just two seniors, while returning a plethora of experienced youth next fall under Head Coach Ed Kieff.
