Tiger bench cruises over Dordt for first GPAC win

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The No. 3 Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team looked to its bench for offensive firepower in a Great Plains Athletic Conference battle. Senior forward Kristin Sabers (Mitchell, S.D.) and freshman Sarah Carr (Huron, S.D.) combined for 36 points as the Tigers defeated Dordt College 80-48 Wednesday in Sioux Center, Iowa.

 The points off the bench from Sabers and Carr proved to be crucial as the Tigers (7-0, 1-0 GPAC) bench outscored the Defenders (5-2, 0-1 GPAC) bench 45-15. Sabers added six rebounds to her 18 points, while Carr shot 8-for-9 from the field. The hot shooting became contagious as the Tigers finished the game shooting 48 percent from the field and 92 percent from the free-throw line.

 Junior Ashley Bray (Anoka, Minn.) led all scorers with 20 points, while adding eight rebounds. Freshman Kynedi Cheeseman (Alexandria, S.D.) pitched in seven points in 10 minutes of action.

 The Tigers take the court as they play their first home GPAC contest against Midland University at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
