How It Happened

Lots of Tigers on the course today for Dakota Wesleyan as Hinker, Moncur, Austreim, Koepke, and Johnson competed as a team; but then Morrison, Bartels, Radant, and Summerville competed as individuals. Hinker led the team in the marathon of a day in Sioux Center after shooting a 79 in the first round with several bogeys, she was able to clean up her game dropping four strokes from her card in the second round as she scribed four birdie shots to climb into a tie for third place. Moncur also had a solid day dropping four shots off her scorecard in the second round. Moncur's first round was full of bogey shots and one birdie, but the second round was clean on the scorecard. With only six bogey shots in the second round, she was able to hold par while picking up a birdie on the remaining holes also helping her climb the leaderboard for a sixth-place finish. Tying for 20th-place, Austreim was able to cut two strokes from her game in the second round as well, keeping her double bogey shots to a minimum. Koepke tied for 33rd-place in the marathon of a day with the highlight in the first round on the 13th hole when she had a 100-yard shot, but made it look easy as she sunk it for an eagle. Johnson rounded out the team leaderboard, placing 37th.

Individually, Morrison led Tigers with a 41st-place finish. Shooting an 89 in the first round she was able to hold her bogey and double bogey shots to a minimum. Bartels also has a better first round than second as she held her bogey and double bogey shots low. Radant cut three shots from her game in the second round, cleaning up her game by grabbing four par shots in the second round. Summerville rounded out the Tigers both individually and as a program, placing 52nd overall after cutting six rounds off her game in the second round.

Picks Thoughts

"Long day for the women as they played 36-holes. Thought we did a great job as a team staying patient and not getting ahead of ourselves. [Becky] Koepke holes out from 100-yards on hole 13 for eagle, which was great for her. [Megan] Hinker and [Erin} Moncur played steady as usual and helped lead up to a second-place finish and first place among GPAC schools also in attendance. This will give up a lot of confidence prior to the conference championships in two weeks."
