MITCHELL, S.D. – Headlining the 2019 Great Plains Athletic Conference Baseball All-Conference Team is Dominique Boerger (Milbank, S.D.) who was named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Pitcher-of-the-Year as the Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team tallied nine players to the All-Conference list, it was announced by the conference on Wednesday.
This is the second time Boerger has been named to the All-GPAC list while this is the first selection on the First Team. Boerger showcased a breakout season for DWU as Boerger started 10 games and finished with a 9-3 record and led the GPAC with a 1.74 ERA. The south-paw only gave up 15 earned runs and pitched 77.2 innings while collecting 77 strikeouts. Boerger pitched six complete games and only walked 12 batters through 11 games.
Joining Boerger on the All-GPAC First Team was shortstop Wes Anderson (Duluth, Minn.). After being named to the All-GPAC Honorable Mention team a season ago, the senior also increased his production at the plate and in the field. Anderson hit .354 with 52 hits, 21 runs batted in, 12 doubles and two homeruns. In the field, Anderson collected 108 assists and notched a field percentage of .908.
For the second-consecutive season, Reed Harter (Colome, S.D.) was named to the All-GPAC Second Team. Harter tallied a .315 batting average with 45 hits, 35 RBIs, six doubles and two homeruns. The junior also had a solid year at second base, only committing three errors and a fielding percentage of .981.
Drew DeMers (Winner, S.D.) took home All-GPAC Second Team honors after leading the team and tied for third in the GPAC in batting average at .375. DeMers tallied 54 hits, 30 runs batted in, four doubles and two triples. DeMers was also a steady piece to the Tiger outfield as he notched a fielding percentage of .965.
The Tigers also had five players named to the Honorable Mention Team. Catcher Kyle Bailey (Brandon, S.D.) finished the season with no errors and a perfect fielding percentage. Bailey also hit for .272 with 28 hits and 17 runs batted in. Pitcher Gunnar Johnson (Gresham, Ore.) received his first All-GPAC honors after finishing third in the conference an ERA at 2.82. Johnson also held opponents to a .207 batting average and finished the season with a 3-5 record and 38 strikeouts.
Ethan Davis (Billings, Mont.) brought a steady piece to the Tigers pitching rotation. Davis finished 2019 with a 5-3 record and an ERA of 3.47. Davis totaled 70 innings pitched and struck out 55 batters while only giving up 14 walks.
Gavin Reichmuth (Chandler, Ariz.) was named to the All-Conference Team for consecutive seasons. Reichmuth posted a 5.81 ERA and finished with a 4-5 record. He started nine games for the Tigers and collected 24 strikeouts. First baseman Chandler Bakley (Martin, S.D.) rounds out the Honorable Mention list as the junior hit .306 with 45 hits, six doubles, two triples and 25 runs batted in. Bakley was a steady fixture at first base with a fielding percentage of .971 and 286 putouts.
DWU finished the 2019 season with an overall record of 23-23 and 16-12 in the GPAC. The Tigers qualified for their seventh GPAC baseball tournament in the last eight years.
