TIGERS, NO. 23 RED RAIDERS SET TO SQUARE OFF IN CONFERENCE PLAY ON WEDNESDAY IN ORANGE CITY

MITCHELL, S.D. – In the wake of a two-match home stand, the Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team hits the road once again in Great Plains Athletic Conference play versus No. 23 Northwestern College at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday in Orange City, Iowa. Northwestern currently sits atop the conference standings with a 9-1-1 overall record and a 5-0-0 start to conference play.

About the Tigers

  • The Tigers split a pair of home matches a week ago downing Dordt University by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday in Mitchell. Rafael Calderon (Talca, Chile) found the back of the net twice while freshman midfielder Barry-Dre Tibbetts (Cayman Islands, Cayman Islands) scored his first-career goal for the home win. On Saturday, however, Dakota Wesleyan suffered a loss versus Concordia University despite a goal by Tiger senior Grant Pierce (Safford, Ariz.) early in the second period.
  • Five different DWU players have scored goals this season including a combined seven goals from Calderon and Cesar Requena (Lima, Peru).

About the Red Raiders

  • The Red Raiders currently sit ranked 23rd nationally in the latest NAIA men's soccer ratings after a perfect start to the conference slate. A season ago, NWC finished with 11 wins and an appearance in the 2021 GPAC Men's Soccer postseason tournament.
  • Head coach Dan Swier finds himself in the midst of his 14th season at Northwestern as the longest tenured coach in program history. With over 125 career victories at NWC, he is also the winningest coach in program history.
  • Senior forward Juan Mackrey has registered five goals and 16 shots in 11 starts this season. The Balcarce, Argentina, native led the Red Raider offensive attack with 21 points and nine goals in 17 appearances in 2020.

  • Wednesday's match marks the 17th meeting in recent history dating back to 2006.
