TIGERS DROP A PAIR OF GAMES TO OPEN THE 2022 HOME SCHEDULE

Mitchell, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan softball slipped at home against the Mustangs to open the final month of the regular season. Between the two games, the Tigers put together 17 hits and nine runs.

How It Happened

Game One

  • The Mustangs jumped ahead quickly in game one, with a 3-0 lead before holding the Tigers scoreless their first time to the plate.
  • DWU allowed Morningside to drive across three more runs in the third inning, before the Mustangs tallied five runs in the fourth.
  • After wrapping up a double play to get out of the fifth inning, McKinnely Mull hit a single to left field driving in Katelyn Farris cutting the Mustangs lead to ten.
  • Nora Nelson stepped to the plate next to find right center field for a bases clearing double that scored Mull, Alyssa Burke, and Aubrey Garbarek.
  • After allowing one more Mustang run in the top of the seventh, DWU trailed 13-4 entering the bottom of the seventh.
  • Adriana Thomason tallied the final run for the Tigers on a solo shot to right center field.
  • Mull was 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI; Nelson was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
  • Thomason tallied one run and one RBI in game one.
  • Meghan Daffern collected the loss in game one, tossing 3.1 innings, allowing 13 hits, nine earned runs, and striking out one.

Game Two

  • Dakota Wesleyan started game two allowing back-to-back RBI to trail 2-0.
  • After Mull reached first on a fielder's choice, Nelson doubled down the right field line placing runners on second and third.
  • Reagan Grossi stepped to the plate and singled down the left field line driving in Mull for a one run deficit.
  • The Mustangs put up one run in the top of the third inning after a DWU error for a two-run lead.
  • The Tigers responded in the bottom of the inning as Mull stole second, allowing Burke to cross home on the throw-out attempt, bringing the score within one run.
  • Morningside collected another run in the fourth inning to lead 4-2, but Tianna Boone in the bottom of the fourth hit a solo shot to dead center field cutting the score back to one.
  • In the fifth, the Mustangs hit a grand slam to left field for the four-run lead.
  • The Tigers were only able to record one more run after giving up the final run in the top of the sixth inning to drop game two 9-4.
  • Burke was 2-for-4 with one run and a stolen base.
  • Tianna Boone was 1-for-3 with a run, and RBI, and a home run.
  • Grossi went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
  • Tava Boone was tabbed with the loss after tossing a complete game allowing 12 hits, eight earned runs, and striking out four.

 

Up Next

The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, April 5 as they travel to Orange City, Iowa. DWU will take on (RV) Northwestern in a rescheduled double header. Game one will being at 3 p.m. with game two starting shortly after.
