BURKE BREAKS CAREER STOLEN BASE RECORD AS THE TIGERS DROP A PAIR ON THE ROAD

Fremont, Neb. – Dakota Wesleyan softball let two tough games slip away against the Warriors Friday evening. Despite the line score, Alyssa Burke broke the career stolen base record in game two, swiping her 49th career base in two years as a Tiger. Burke breaks the record set by Dani Klassen back in 2014-15.

How It Happened

Game One

  • The Tigers got game one started with Alyssa Burke singling up the middle before tying the career stolen base record with her 48th career base taken.
  • Adriana Thomason stepped to the plate and doubled to right-center field, allowing Burke to score and take the 1-0 lead.
  • McKinnely Mull reached first on the error by the Midland right fielder as Thomason scored, making it a 2-0 game early.
  • The Warriors in the second inning started things off with back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases.
  • Midland then hit a base clearing double, followed by a triple to center field for the 4-2 lead.
  • With two more Warrior runs scored in the third inning, DWU came up big in the fourth.
  • Tianna Boone got things started with a solo shot to center field, cutting the deficit to one run.
  • With one out, the Tigers loaded the bases for Thomason to send one over the fence in right-center field to lead Midland 7-6.
  • The Warriors answered in the bottom of the inning, notching six runs on six hits while leaving two more runners on base to lead 8-7.
  • Midland tacked on their final two runs in the sixth inning off a single to lead 14-7.
  • After Ti. Boone reached first on an error, Jaden Warner hit an RBI single, followed by Peyton Bagley hitting a three-RBI home run for the final score of the game.
  • Bagley was 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and a home run.
  • Ti. Boone went 1-for-3 with one RBI, two runs, and a home run
  • Thomason was 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, a double, one home run, and one stolen base.
  • Tava Boone was credited with the loss in game one after pitching five complete innings, allowing ten earned runs on 16 hits and striking out eight.

Game Two

  • Dakota Wesleyan got off to a slow start in game two, not driving their first run across till the third inning.
  • Ella Peterson dropped a double into left-center field allowing Sophie Wietzema to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Mull followed with a single to shortstop driving Peterson in and taking the lead 2-1.
  • The Warriors grabbed two more runs in the third and the fourth inning to regain the lead and extend it to 5-2 over the Tigers.
  • Mull started off the sixth inning for DWU with a long ball to left field as the Tigers fall in game two 11-3.
  • Burke secured her name in DWU softball history with a record-setting 49 stolen bases in her career with the Tigers.
  • Mull went 2-for-2 with two RBI, a run, and a home run in the game; Peterson was 1-for-3 with one RBI, one run, and a double.
  • Meghan Daffern; was hit with the loss in game two after working five complete innings and allowing 11 hits, five earned runs, and striking out three.

 

Up Next

Dakota Wesleyan softball is back in action tomorrow afternoon with the final road game of the 2022 regular season. At 1 p.m. the Tigers will square off with the Bulldogs in the first of two games from Nebraska.
