Yankton, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan women's golf kicked off their season with a big two-day performance at the Mount Marty Women's Invitational. The Tigers wrapped up day one sitting in second place after shooting a 325 total. DWU was not far out from UN Kearney who held the top spot with a day one total of 306. The Tigers conclude the invitational with a fourth-place finish after shooting a 353 on the second day. The DWU "B" team shot a 384 during the first round before carding a 407 on day two for a 791 grand total as they placed 10th.
How It Happened
Day One:
Megan Hinker played a solid round on day one, finishing tied for third place after shooting a 78. Hinker cleaned up play on the back nine, putting up a trio of birdie shots on the 10th, 13th, and 18th holes while she collected on several par shots. Erin Moncur also concluded day one tied for third place with a 78. Moncur carded a several bogey shots through day one, but also held strong putting up multiple par shots and a birdie shot late in the first round. Ashton Austreim turned in her score card after the first round tied for 15th after shooting an 82. Despite a few extra strokes on the opening hole, she was able to clean up play posting multiple par and bogey shots. Kaylee Johnson and Shauna Radent concluded the first round both tied for 25th place after shooting an 87. Becky Koepke turned in a score card of 91 at the end of the first 18-holes. Macee Bartels and Kelsey Morrison both shot a 97 through the first round tying them for 42nd place. Ashton Summerville posted a 99 after 18-holes, placing her in 46th.
Day Two:
Hinker led the Tiger women's golf squad placing 13th after shooting an 86 on day two at the Hillcrest Golf and Country Club. She posted several par and bogey shots while only scoring one birdie shot on the day. Moncur played a similar day two, posting multiple par and bogey shots as she concluded play in 14th place. Austriem just missed the top-20 finishers by one stroke as she finished 21st posting a trio or par shots and a handful of bogey shots. Radant placed 26th after shooting a 90 in the second round. Johnson turned in a scorecard with a 96 on it as she grabbed 35th overall to conclude the invitational. Koepke finished the second round with a score of 98, posting one birdie shot early, placing her in 38th. Bartels placed 42nd shooting a two-day total of 198; as Summerville climbed three spots to finish in 43rd posting a two round total of 201.
Picks Thoughts
"The women were able to get off to a solid start on day one. Thought we played Fox Fun with confidence off the tee and with approach shots. I think everyone wanted to play a little better than we did today at Hillcrest, but it's a difficult course. Overall, a successful tournament and good experience for some of our younger players."
