CRETE, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling team held a lead midway through the dual, but it was Doane College who pulled away for a 33-15 victory in a Great Plains Athletic Conference bout in Crete, Neb.
In the 157-pound weight class, Marcus Urban (Plankinton, S.D.) defeated Kalen Roth by fall in the first period. Urban wasted no time receiving a point for a stalling call on Roth. Moments later, Urban earned two points on a takedown before Urban pinned Roth to tie the team score at 12.
Cole Halouska (Worthing, S.D.) won a high-scoring match against Garrett Cornwell. Halouska was trailing in the third period, until he received a four-point near fall to take a 13-8 lead late in the third period. Halouska was able to hang on to give the Tigers a 15-12 lead in the dual.
Wrestling at 174-pound weight class was Tanner Wernsman (Arapahoe, Neb.). After a scoreless first period, Wernsman fell behind Jacob Williams 4-1 in the second period. He was able to escape Williams to cut the lead to two, but it wasn't enough as Williams took the match 4-2.
DWU is back on the mat today at the UNK duals in Kearney, Neb.
