KEARNEY, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling team competed in the University of Nebraska-Kearney Duals on Friday as they wrestled five different duals in Kearney, Neb.
In their first match against Colby Community College the Tigers lost, 24-12. Xylon Takata (Hilo, Hawaii) defeated Joseph Unruh by fall in the second period. In 157-pound weight class, Cole Halouska (Worthing, S.D.) notched a win by pinning Dalton Moody in 28 seconds.
Next DWU battled Iowa Western Community College and fell 48-3. Marcus Urban (Plankinton, S.D.) came away with the only victory, 5-2 over Guy Sudmann. In the next match, the Tigers took on host school Nebraska-Kearney, and dropped the match 36-12. Urban came away with a victory at the 157-pound weight class by defeating Walker Johnson in the first period by fall.
DWU then wrestled Northeastern Junior College (Colo.) and lost 55-0. In the final dual of the day, the Tigers faced off against Schreiner University (Texas), as DWU picked up two wins by fall from Halouska and Tanner Wernsman (Arapahoe, Neb.). But it wasn't enough as Schreiner University won, 39-12.
The Tigers will return home for Senior Day against NCAA Division II Southwest Minnesota State University at 7 p.m. Thursday at the DWU/Avera Sports and Wellness Complex in Mitchell.
