TIGER MEN’S WRESTLING BOUNCES BACK IN THE FIRST GPAC EVENT OF THE SEASON WITH A BIG 43-3 WIN OVER HASTINGS

 

Sioux City, Iowa – Dakota Wesleyan men's wrestling posted a strong two duels Tuesday evening. The Tigers were evenly matched against the Bulldogs of Concordia in their first of two duals despite dropping the match 22-17. DWU bounced back in their final matches of the evening with a big 43-3 win over the Broncos of Hastings.

How It Happened

Tigers vs Bulldogs:

Dakota Wesleyan was in the hole early against the Bulldogs as they forfeited the 125 class to trail 6-0. Temuujin Natsagdorj grabbed the first win of the Tigers in the 133 class with a decision win, 7-3 over Thomas Ivey to cut the DWU deficit in half. Zach Zitek set the Tigers back 9-3 after a loss by decision 7-0 in the 141 class. Aric Williams picked up a much-needed victory in the 149 class by decision 8-6 over Jeaven Scdoris putting the Tigers back in striking distance of tying the dual or taking the lead.  Tyson Johnson suffered a loss by fall in 2:58 as DWU now trailed 15-6. Kaleb Bigelow at the 165 class fell by decision 5-4 over Issiah Burks as the Tigers now trail the Bulldogs, 18-6. Lane Miller secured the win by tech fall in 5:44 with a score of 16-0 over Jose Sanchez giving the Tigers five big points in the 174 class as they look to come from behind. Colten Hink at 197 secured three key points  over Clayton Laabs by decision, 10-8. In the final match of the first dual, Trevion Sample at 285 grabbed a win by decision 9-4, but it wasn't enough to give the Tigers the point needed as they fall to the Bulldogs 22-17.

 

Tigers vs. Broncos:

The Tigers bounced back in the second dual of the evening with Natsagdorj kicking things off with a major decision win, 12-3 over Christian Mizzell putting the Tigers ahead 4-0. In the 141 class, the Broncos grabbed three team points after a decision win 9-5 over Zitek, cutting DWU's lead to one point, 4-3. Williams picked up six team points with a fall in 1:49 over Andy Rojas as the Tigers now lead 10-3. Johnson followed in the 157 class with six more team points as he collected a win via fall in 6:05. Bigelow continued adding to the Dakota Wesleyan lead with three more points after a 4-0 decision win over Cole Maschmann. At 174 and 285, Lane Miller and Trevion Sample both grabbed victories via fall adding a total of 12 points to the Tigers already massive lead. Planansky and Hink finished things off in the 184 and 197 class with wins via forfeit as Dakota Wesleyan cruised to their first dual win of the season 43-3 over the Broncos.
