DAKOTA WESLEYAN FACES DOANE UNIVERSITY ON SATURDAY IN CONFERENCE ACTION

MITCHELL, S.D. – Winners of three of its last four, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team battles Doane University at 1 p.m. on Saturday from Al Papik Field in Crete, Neb.  

About Dakota Wesleyan

  •  Dakota Wesleyan enters the match with a 6-5-0 record and a 3-3-0 start in Great Plains Athletic Conference play. On Wednesday, DWU defeated Northwestern College by a score of 2-0 for its first win over the Red Raiders since the 2011 season.
  • Jozy Bardsley (Tea, S.D.) scored both goals for the Tigers on Wednesday and now sits with eight goals in 10 matches on the year. The 5-foot-8 senior forward holds 10 multi-goal performances and 27 goals scored in her DWU career.
  • Wednesday's road victory over NWC gave the Tigers their second-straight shutout win and marks the first time with consecutive shutout victories for the program since the 2011 campaign, in which Dakota Wesleyan amassed three-straight such victories.
  • The offensive attack, which registered 16 shots versus Northwestern, has compiled 15 or more shots in five outings this season, as the Tigers are 3-2-0 in such contests.  
  • On the opposite side of the pitch, the Dakota Wesleyan defensive back line encountered a season-low in shot attempts faced as DWU limited the NWC attack to just five shots and four shots on goal. Senior captain Kassidy Johnson (Hartford, S.D.), junior Bailey Nester (Hartford, S.D.) and sophomore Jade Wesley (Sioux Falls, S.D.) all anchored the performance after getting the starts at the defender position.
  • Freshman duo Isabella Gregg (Moreno Valley, Calif.) and Hannah Trumbull (Casper, Wyo.) currently maintain a .768 save percentage at goalkeeper. The Dakota Wesleyan tandem has logged four shutout performances so far during the 2021 campaign.

About Doane  

  • Head coach Jennifer Kennedy-Croft enters her sixth season with the Doane University women's soccer program following stops at both Seattle University and Utah State University. The University of Connecticut graduate has Doane off to a 3-7-0 start along with a 1-4-0 mark in conference play.
  • Senior goalkeeper Danielle Dubovy maintains a .741 save percentage along with 40 saves in nine games this season for DOA. 
  • Midfielder Emily Guiton and forward Michaela Thompson continue to pace the Tiger attack with three goals each on a combined 31 shots attempted.

Series History (Doane University)

  • Saturday's match marks the 12th meeting between both programs in recent history with the head-to-head record sitting at 5-5-1. Dakota Wesleyan has won four-straight over DOA including both matchups in 2020, in which the DWU offense outscored Doane 8-0.
  • Since the 2018 campaign, Dakota Wesleyan has limited Doane to just one goal along with 6.3 shots per contest.
