LINCOLN, Neb. — Dakota Wesleyan Women's Soccer faced the NCAA Division III Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves in an out-of-conference contest.
The Tigers would be the first team to strike early in the contest thanks to an impressive offensive front that has been controlling the upper third of the pitch for its past few contests. Hannah Petrucci would be the one to strike for Dakota Wesleyan off a clean pass from Arlette Montanez in the 18th minute to get the team out to a 1-0 lead. On the other end of the pitch, Bailey Lester would lock down the NWU attack, totaling eight saves during the entirety of the match in an extremely impressive performance. She would give up one goal in the 34th minute unassisted to tie the game at 1-1, but the Tigers would stay sturdy on the back half through the rest of the contest to prevent any more scoring opportunities.
The second half would see the pace of both teams slow down as each defense got familiar with the opposing attack. Petrucci, Montanez, and Annika Enevoldsen would lead the attack with three shots each, but aside from the goal earlier in the first half, they would not find any more points. Nebraska Wesleyan would make a few minal pushes and take advantage of a handful of Dakota Wesleyan fouls to position corner kicks, but they would also come up empty-handed against the Tiger backline. DWU would outshoot the Prairie Wolves 16-14, but even so, the contest would end in a 1-1 draw.
DWU Women's Soccer will be back in action against Dakota State at home on Tuesday, September 16th, at 6:00 PM. See the entire 2025 schedule here.
