ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Dakota Wesleyan Women's Soccer squared off against the Northwestern Red Raiders in a conference competition.
The Red Raiders set the offensive pace early in the match, but the Tigers were the first team to capitalize on scoring opportunities. After a series of shots on goalkeeper Abigail Colgrove, who totaled five saves during the match, were either saved or missed, Dakota Wesleyan found a seam in the Northwestern defense to quickly capitalize on scoring opportunities. Annika Enevoldsen registered her third goal of the season in the 12th minute of the contest, with Molly Colgrove driving in her first goal of the season less than two minutes later to jump to a 2-0 lead. The Red Raiders fought back with seven shot attempts before halftime, but the Tigers fended them off at every opportunity. Defensively, the backline of Meghan Hutchison, Jacque Madrid, and Mikayla Adams each put in a full 90 minutes to help keep the Red Raiders at bay.
The Tigers continued their hot streak with a goal from Hannah Petrucci in the 51st minute to record her fourth on the season. Dakota Wesleyan would maintain the 3-0 lead for a considerable amount of time, thanks to an impressive defensive effort, which saw Northwestern notably double DWU's shot count, 22-11. The Red Raiders had plenty of opportunities, but the added defensive efforts of Reese Leighton and Abigail Determan helped keep them out of the net. Northwestern did score a goal in the 79th minute to get on the board, but the score remained 3-1 for the rest of the contest. The win marks Dakota Wesleyan's first GPAC win of the season and the Tigers' third-straight win over the Red Raiders.
DWU Women's Soccer will be back in action against Doane on October 4th in a home contest. See the full 2025 schedule here.
