Forgey shines at SDSU, sets pair of school records

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the South Dakota State University Indoor Classic Friday and Saturday in Brookings, S.D.

Senior Skylar Forgey (Colome, S.D.) continued her record breaking season for the Tigers over the weekend. Forgey started the weekend off with a third-place finish out of 51 runners in the 1,000-meter run with a record-breaking time of 2:57.56. She followed up on Saturday with another record-breaking time in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:17.02 placing 12th out of 78 runners. Forgey has now qualified with the 'A' standard times in both events for the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships next month in Johnson City, Tenn.

Also for the DWU women seniors Nicole Court-Menendez (Lewiston, Maine) and Tara Ronke (Tyndall, S.D.) competed in the 1,000-meter run. Court-Menendez finished in a time of 3:24.75, while Ronke crossed the finish-line in 3:30.25. Freshmen Kamber Lamer (Hartford, S.D) and Kristen Longville (Lake Preston, S.D.) competed in the triple jump for the Tigers. Lamer had a 20th-place finish with a leap of 10.76 meters and Longville had a best jump of 10.38 meters to end the meet in 32nd place.

For the Tiger men freshman Ben Hammer (Dell Rapids, S.D.) had a top-ten finish in the shot put with a throw of 15.13 meters. Hammer finished the weight throw with a best throw of 13.55 meters to finish in 33rd place.

Senior Daniel Porter (Plattsmouth, Neb.) had a 16th-place finish in the triple jump with a best jump of 12.81 meters. Sophomore Jeremiah Panec (Kenesaw, Neb.) ran the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:40.14 to finish in 27th. Panec also competed in the 800-meter run crossing the finish line in 2:08.27.

The DWU track and field teams will be in action at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday.
