Mitchell, S.D. – No. 13 Dakota Wesleyan volleyball drops their first match at home to non-conference rival Dakota State. Despite dropping their first home match of the season, Madeline Else recorded a season high in assists for four-set matched with 52.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers got off to a slow start in the opening set of the match, quickly finding themselves in a 7-3 deficit.
  • After tying the set at 11-11, DWU went on a nine-point run taking a seven-point lead 18-11.
  • After taking the lead, the Tigers shut the door on the Trojans to take the first set 25-19.
  • The third set was a battle as DWU and DSU kept the score within one or two points.
  • The Tigers couldn't pick up a third set win as they fell 25-22 while hitting .106 percent.
  • In the fourth and final set of the match, DWU was down by as much as seven points (13-6).
  • The Tigers were able to close the gap to four but proved to not be enough to keep the clean sheet at home.
  • In the match, DWU hit .159 percent with 57 kills on 189 attempts.
  • Ady Dwight led the team with 16 kills, followed by Mariah Gloe with 15 kills as she led the team in hitting percentage with .294.
  • Else recorded 52 of the team's 54 total assists.
  • On the defensive side, Dakota Wesleyan tallied 88 total digs and 20 blocks.
  • Hanna Reiff led in digs earning 22 of them as Dwight recorded eight block assists.

Dakota Wesleyan volleyball is back home on Friday evening as they welcome No. 1 Jamestown to Christen Family Athletic Center. The GPAC match-up will begin at 6 p.m. for the junior varsity teams; then at 7:30 p.m., the Varsity teams will take the court. No. 1 Jamestown currently sits first in conference play with records of 19-0 overall and 8-0 in GPAC play. No. 13 Dakota Wesleyan sits second in conference play with records of, 16-2 overall and 6-1 in GPAC play.
