DAVENPORT, Iowa — Dakota Wesleyan Men's Soccer continued its early-season road trip against St. Ambrose University.
Defense would highlight the early portions of the game for both squads, with either goalie racking up multiple saves throughout the contest. Joseph Valler would play all 90 minutes defending the goal for DWU and register three saves during the match. He would be supported by a stout defensive effort spearheaded by veterans Colin Burke and Coben Colson, who would both be on the pitch for the entirety of the match. The Tigers would keep the Fighting Bees out of the goal for almost a half-hour, but St. Ambrose would be the first team to strike in the contest after a well-executed play following a DWU yellow card. SAU would score again in the 31st minute, putting Dakota Wesleyan at a 0-2 disadvantage heading into the half, as the Tigers would not be able to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
The Tigers would be more aggressive on the offensive front in the second half, with Luis Waeschle and Evan Bolster putting together solid scoring attempts that would ultimately be saved by the St. Ambrose goalkeeper. DWU would get on the board in the 67th minute thanks to some great offensive maneuvering from Michael Kelly on his first goal of the 2025 season, and while the goal would give the team newfound momentum, DWU would still find themselves unable to convert on a second goal to tie the contest. AJ Bowman, Ty Ferguson, and Ethan Shaw would register shots on goal before the 90-minute mark, but the Tigers would ultimately fall, 1-2.
