MITCHELL, S.D. — RV Dakota Wesleyan Volleyball faced the Mount Marty Lancers in a GPAC contest in the program's annual Pink Match, which raises funds and awareness for cancer research.
The Tigers and Lancers traded points early in the first set to start the match, but the DWU offense came alive in the middle of the set to rattle off nine-straight points and take a 22-11 lead. Evy Knoblock continued her streak of leading the offense with 12 kills on 34 total attacks to help push the first set in favor of the Tigers in a dominant 25-13 frame. Karly VanDerWerff and Emily Dale combined for 14 kills and nine blocks at the net to keep the momentum in favor of Dakota Wesleyan. The second set saw the Lancers keep the score closer through the middle portion of the frame, but the Tigers once again strung together a few late scoring runs to secure a 25-18 victory to go up 2-0 heading into the final set of the match.
Dakota Wesleyan's efficient attack was fueled by setter Kayleigh Hybertson, who led the match with 29 assists in total, while also contributing five digs and two kills. Defensively, the Tigers were led by Elizabeth Tyler with 14 digs, while Abigail Zegar and Carlee Laubach contributed 11 each. The backline proved important in the third set, which saw Mount Marty take an early lead to try to get momentum back on its side. Still, another late eight-point scoring run put the Tigers back in control, eventually taking the set 25-20 to complete the sweep and pick up a conference win over the Lancers. Dakota Wesleyan moves to 10-8 overall and 4-4 in GPAC play.
DWU Volleyball will face the Doane Tigers next on Friday, October 10th, down in Crete. See the full 2025 schedule here.
