OMAHA, Neb. — RV Dakota Wesleyan Volleyball squared off against 10th-ranked Providence (Mont.) and RV Benedictine (Kan.) in their Saturday slate of competition at the College of St. Mary Labor Day Classic.
The Tigers faced Providence in their first match of the day, where they would have a competitive first set against the Argos. DWU would be led offensively by Karly VanDerWerff, who tallied 11 kills and four blocks at the net. As the Argos and Tigers traded points, more contributors continued to put up numbers, as Evy Knoblock and Emily Dale contributed nine kills apiece throughout the contest. Providence would pull away late, however, to secure the first set in the match. The Argos would be much more dominant in their second set against the Tigers, taking a two-set lead after a 14-25 frame. DWU would claw back for an extremely close third set, taking multiple leads in the late portions of the contest, but a tough Providence squad would take advantage of a late momentum swing to claim the third set and match victory.
In the afternoon, Dakota Wesleyan would face another team receiving votes in the top 25 in Benedictine. The Tigers would find themselves on the winning side of a close set, winning 25-23 in a back-and-forth affair. VanDerWerff would lead the way once again with 15 kills and five blocks at the net in four sets against Benedictine. Kayleigh Hybertson would rattle off 44 assists to cap off an impressive weekend for the setter as the Tigers would roll to a 2-0 match lead after a 25-15 win in set number two. The Ravens would find their footing in the third set, winning it 18-25, but DWU would quickly get back on track in the fourth frame. Elizabeth Tyler and Abigail Zegar would hold down the defensive end for the Tigers, each contributing 12 kills during the match, while Presly Pastian would follow closely behind with 11 of her own. DWU would end the weekend on a high note by claiming the fourth set and match by a score of 25-19.
DWU Volleyball will be back in action on Tuesday, September 2nd, as they take on the Dakota State Trojans in Madison. See the full 2025 schedule here.
